The Basics of Clean Eating and Baking

For the purposes of this book, the treat recipes avoid ingredients that are highly processed; meaning, that they are so far from nature that they lack any nutrition. This includes ready-made mixes and items with preservative-filled, mystery ingredients.

When it comes to using a sweetener for the treats in this cookbook, I’ve chosen to test and create recipes with honey, maple syrup, and coconut palm sugar. Coconut sugar also contains zinc and calcium, plus antioxidants and probiotics. So, for these reasons, along with the fact that it’s unrefined, I’ve chosen it as the replacement for granulated (white and brown) sugar in this cookbook; it’s my favorite clean sweetener to use.

This is not a sugar-free cookbook, however. It’s a desserts cookbook that includes recipes made with clean ingredients. Of course, ingredients will always vary by brand, such as the case with chocolate chips. So make sure to check the label whenever possible.

When it comes to clean meals, it’s easy to follow a recipe and stick with a plan. The key word: plan. But when the craving for something sweet sets in, it’s tempting to grab a candy bar while waiting at the check-out line or to throw a box of cookies in the grocery cart.

I hope the recipes in this cookbook help you avoid purchasing convenient, processed desserts while letting you enjoy a sweet treat from time to time with your family and friends.

    Healthy and Delicious – Can’t go wrong there!
    I am having so much fun with this book. I am committed to a healthy lifestyle and diet, and when something like this comes around, it is so welcome in my house! I have tried many of the sweet treats in this book and am still amazed that they are so good with the healthy ingredients that went into making them. Cooking like this is a beautiful way to love your family with health and smiles!

    Good for dietary restrictions
    Recipes seem fine enough, but a couple things are irritating. The author caters to a wide group: gluten-free, dairy-free, mostly nut free. This causes the ingredients to be fairly repetitious, especially the coconut products: coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut flour. Coconut oil and milk are high in saturated fat, which isn’t good for those of us watching our cholesterol. Also, the listed sugar is usually honey or maple syrup, which aren’t much better than white sugar (so why not just use white sugar?). If you have multiple dietary restrictions, you’ll probably be happy, but this wasn’t what I was hoping for. Caloric/nutritional information would’ve been nice to include, as well.

    So many easy and delicious treats! A lot of the same basic base ingredients make it very budget friendly. Laura never disappoints and I feel better without all of the chemicals and junk!

    Have really enjoyed this cookbook
    I have this cookbook for a while now and tried about 8 of the recipes so far. I have loved all of them. Some of my family members are finicky about certain types of recipes and they have enjoyed them as well. It’s very hard for me to find cleaner recipes they are on board with so it has been a real help.

    No Nutritional Detail for The Recipes
    The recipes in this book are presented well and look good, but I wish there was nutritional and calorie information on each. Clean eating and healthy doesn’t always equate to low calorie. Having this information available would help us feel better about the selections we make. Instead, I have to figure the overall calories out myself manually for each recipe. And have no clue as to the protein, fat, sugar or salt info.

    I will use this cookbook almost every day.
    I am so excited this cookbook. There is truly something everyone can eat and love in the book. I have already made the raspberry bars and these are getting made next! The images are so inspirational and the recipes are easy to follow. I need to get her other cookbooks now. Sweet treats you can feel good about.

    I’m so impressed with Clean Treats for Everyone! The recipes are simple, healthy, and absolutely delicious. The chocolate cheesecake made with walnuts and dried prunes is a standout – it’s indulgent and full of flavour, yet not too heavy. It’s become my go-to dessert when I want something sweet but still feel good about what I’m eating. Highly recommend this book if you’re looking to enjoy treats without the guilt!
