Excellent book! A must read for anyone with kids getting out of a toxic marriage
I canât believe how many things in this book spoke to me, what Iâve been through and continue to manage or deal with!!! The narcissistic behaviors described, I lived and live this, wow, just wow!So helpful in changing my perspective too! For example, my kids come home from visits with their dad lashing out, angry with me and mean; not the kids who left and it takes days to get them back into a normal routine before the cycle starts over. Iâve questioned myself, what am I doing or did I do wrong⦠this book completely changed my perspective, Iâve done NOTHING wrong, in fact I am doing it right! Thank you!!

Low on fluff, high on practical advice
I wanted to start by noting that while this book is written by a woman and primarily aimed at mothers, a lot of the advice could just as easily apply to fathers too, who can absolutely be victims of narcissistic abuse as well. That said, Co-Parenting with a Covert Narcissist is a solid, easy-to-follow resource. It’s refreshingly low on fluff and high on practical steps (e.g. around boundary setting, tapping techniques) you can actually use, which I really appreciated. One thing that stood out to me is how well the author walks a very tricky line: validating the exhausting emotional reality of dealing with a covert narcissist, without leaving readers feeling like helpless victims. It’s not always easy to strike that balance, but I think the book does a really good job of it.Overall, it’s a thoughtful, empowering guide for anyone navigating the tough road of co-parenting with a narcissistic or extremely emotionally immature co-parent (as the book rightly notes, narcissism exists on a spectrum).

A Lifeline for Mamas Navigating Narcissistic Co-Parenting â With a Few Caveats
Cara Adria Murphyâs Coparenting With A Covert Narcissist is a compassionate, practical guide for mothers trapped in the exhausting cycle of high-conflict co-parenting. The book delivers exactly what it promises: actionable strategies (like Gray Rock, BIFF, and JADE) to disarm manipulation, plus validating stories from women whoâve walked this painful path. What Shines:Boundary-setting tools are clear and therapist-approvedâno fluff. The focus on protecting kids through PCEs (Positive Childhood Experiences) is gold.Somatic exercises and EFT (tapping) techniques offer immediate relief for stress.Free extras (journal prompts, ACEs list, attachment guide) make it a standout resource.

Co-Parenting with a Covert Narcissist
This book felt like a mirror held up to my own life. Iâm dealing with an extremely difficult, neglectful co-parent who seems to âcounter-parentâ every decision I make, and chapter after chapter nailed that reality with uncanny accuracy.I wonât pretend it was an easy readâseeing my daily battles spelled out on the page was equal parts validating and frustrating. Still, that emotional sting was worth it for the relief of realizing Iâm not alone and for the concrete strategies the author lays out. From gray-rock communication tips to boundary-setting scripts, I walked away with a handful of practical tools I can start using right now. Most important, the book reframed my situation: instead of feeling stuck in endless conflict, I now feel equipped to protect my childâs well-being and my own peace of mind. It doesnât promise a perfect outcomeânothing does when youâre co-parenting with a covert narcissistâbut itâs a solid, no-nonsense guide that earns a permanent spot in my âsurvival toolbox.â

Important
There are tons of books on the market (of which Iâve read many) on understanding and dealing with narcissists, which usually involves removing yourself from their orbit. But what if youâre coparenting with a narcissist? You canât really realistically walk away nearly as easily, can you? This book is an excellent and realistic resource for understanding and creating as effective an environment as possible. This includes a discussion of setting boundaries, understanding various kinds of narcissism and its effects on parents and children, and techniques such as JADE and BIFF. This is an excellent resource for anyone or any parent trying to understand the consequences of narcissists on a family.

Helpful resource, great read
This book is filled with insights and understanding of the actions of a covert narcissist. Itâs clear the author has extensive knowledge and understanding of this particular subject. The examples shared and explanations around the thoughts and feelings from those situations have opened my eyes to experiences I have had and behaviors Iâve dealt with that I couldnât fully put my finger on before. This book is an excellent resource full of insights that provide direction, help, and clarity. I highly recommend anyone who has dealt with this particular form of abuse (or anyone struggling with co-parenting!) to check out this book.

Gives hope and a solid path forward
This book is hands down one of the most validating and practical resources Iâve come across for anyone dealing with a manipulative ex. Cara Adria Murphy does a phenomenal job of explaining the hidden behaviors of covert narcissists; those subtle, infuriating tactics that make you feel crazy, gaslit, and emotionally drained.

Highly recommend for anyone navigating co-parenting with a monster.
I’m in the middle of a divorce from a narcissist, and this book has been such a validating and practical guide. I really appreciate how it truly understands what it’s like to be US. One of the tips I got that I wouldn’t have thought of was using AI (like ChatGPT) to help draft neutral, professional messages when emotions are running high. Genius. The advice i realistic, the tone is compassionate, and it gives you tools to protect your peace and stay focused on the your kids. Highly recommend for anyone navigating co-parenting with a monster.

I purchased Co-Parenting With A Covert Narcissist and was thoroughly impressed with the clear, practical guidance and the incredibly helpful content. This book is a real eye-opener, especially for those dealing with a narcissistic ex-partner in a co-parenting situation. What I appreciated most was the step-by-step guide on how to recognize manipulative behaviors and protect both yourself and your children. I found the âGray Rockâ approach particularly helpful in terms of how to communicate with a narcissistic co-parent, and how to set healthy boundaries. The many examples and real-life scenarios make it easier to apply the theory in practice. The author approaches the topic with great empathy while also providing clear and actionable advice on how to protect your emotions while still prioritizing the well-being of your children. The path to more peaceful co-parenting is laid out clearly and step-by-step, making it especially accessible for readers in difficult situations like this.Overall, the book is a valuable resource for anyone co-parenting with a narcissistic individual. It not only offers practical tips and strategies but also emotional support. I highly recommend it to anyone navigating the challenges of co-parenting with a narcissistic partner.
