A modernized approach to meditation that will appeal to anyone, even if – especially if – you believe you have no time, you can’t sit still, or that “it’s just not you.”
Whether you’re a Fortune 500 CEO or someone bogged down with a never-ending to-do list, the proven secret to being more effective and living a happier, healthier life is to hurry up and slow down, to unplug. Studies show that you can get more done – and do it better – by doing less, just by consciously unplugging for a few minutes each day and meditating.
This revolutionary book by the founder and CEO of the groundbreaking LA-based meditation studio Unplug Meditation brilliantly simplifies this powerful practice and shows the overwhelmed and overworked how easy it is to unplug in order to relieve stress, regain focus, and recharge.
Schwartz debunks the common misperceptions about meditation, including the notion that you need to sit still for long periods of time, or that you need to “turn off your brain.” She also shares the life-changing benefits you will experience, the proven science of how meditation literally changes your brain, as well as easy techniques and tips to easily incorporate meditation into your daily life.

Straight to the Point
I enjoyed Suzeâs book Unplug. As someone who has practiced meditation on and off now for almost 5 years, I resonated with the journey that led Suze to meditation because it felt similar to my own. I spent 20+ years operating on stress hormones, coffee and a self imposed requirement that I be on my âAâ game at all times. Although this was an effective way to build a successful career because it feeds into the American ethos involving the payoff associated with âhard workâ, I was burned out and suffering from crushing anxiety after the birth of my daughter.Suzeâs book does an amazing job of distilling the mountain of information surrounding meditation into the critical tenets of the practice in a secular, easy to explain way that has broad appeal. Some of the more surprising things I learned when reading the book was about the wealth of scientific research to support the practice. One of the most compelling things I learned reading Unplug is how a regular meditation practice can literally change the physical structure of your brain; increasing gray matter located in the frontal cortex and shrinking gray matter in the amygdala or emotional center of the brain. In another chapter, Suze quotes Laurie Cousins who notes that meditation has been shown to create resilience. I think many times in our daily lives we have a desire to do something at a certain level based on expectations we place on ourselves. At times, we are just unable to operate at that level. The frustration associated with this gap can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms designed to fool us into thinking we are creating additional time/space when really we are sinking further into overwhelm and punishing our bodies in the name of performance (see coffee, long hours and exhaustion above). However, meditation creates resilience and resilience increases performance in a healthy way that can expand our joy and change how we perceive the situation at hand.Thank you, Suze for writing this book and providing an easy to read guide on how to incorporate meditation into your daily routine – itâs a great read designed for the healthy skeptic in all of us.

Life changing read!
I absolutely loved reading this book and have to say, congratulations and thank you Suze for such an enjoyable read! The name you chose, Unplug, is genius and a perfect metaphor for our busy, plugged in lives we live today. I felt as if I was sitting in your meditation studio listening to you talk to me about meditation while reading the book! Your personality shines through every page and you completely take the confusion out of meditation. I found this book to be a beautiful composition of history, scientific studies, testimonials, personal experiences, and examples of meditations to practice-I found myself wanting to highlight every sentence! Before reading this book and taking this course, I thought I was trying to get to a “meditative state” where no thoughts were coming in. However, I am now aware that meditation is not meant to suppress thoughts, but rather change my response to those thoughts and let them go. I also learned that the key to mediation is consistency and that there is no such thing as a bad meditation. Previously, I fell off of my meditation practice because of time constraints and when I picked it back up I wasn’t able to get into that zenned out state of mind. An overarching theme that kept coming up for me while reading this book was that meditation allows you to choose the life you want to live by being the best version of yourself. By releasing stagnant energy blocks hindering you from moving forward or by shrinking your amygdala and increasing the grey matter in your hippocampus, meditation gives you the confidence and courage to trust your intuition and be guided by the universal light!

Read this book from cover to cover in 4 days, reading it puts you in a meditative state
After reading Unplug: A Simple Guide to Meditation for Busy Skeptics and Modern Soul Seekers, the amount of information I’ve consumed is immeasurable. And the consumption rate was unlike anything I’ve ever consumed before. It was so mind-blowingly fascinating, I can openly admit, I read it it twice. There are too many things I’ve acquired from the readings that I’m drawn to, I’ve narrowed it down to the one’s that are the most important to me. Starting with an appreciation for the thoughts that creep back in during meditation, as opposed to feeling defeated when they do come in, I can literally feel the gap, and the separation from the thoughts, and identifying them, labeling them and filing them away, or like the davidji analogy says, throwing them in the trash icon on your computer screen. Furthermore, the scientific evidence found in Sara Lazars study, is astonishing, with the ability for the stillness, presentness, awareness, and silence during meditation to change ones brain chemistry by increasing grey matter in the prefrontal cortex and decreasing it in the amygdala, given that it is done as a daily practice. Lastly, “bad habits and addictions get left behind,” I resonate with this tremendously, since I’ve been meditating daily, I smoke substantially less cigarettes and am effortlessly more mindful about my eating. The benefits don’t take long before you can feel them, my anxious heart feels like it has a warm blanket giving it a hug, that is the magic.

The book crossed my way, when I was looking for mediation studios, which is experienced in NYC first. I was so fascinated by the idea to have a studio just for meditation, that i had to order the book of the Suze. And as Unplug is the first Walk in Meditation studio I was even more interested to read the story behing. The book exeeded my expectations, its written straight to the point. The story of Suze’s life is interesting and in many points I found myself as well. The book is very good to start meditation, it gives you background enought to understand the benifits. Meditations given in the book are easy to implement into your daily life and thats whats imporant, then you earn the benefits. Unplug yourself .. and you work again!

Me encanto, es una guia practica para cualquier persona que quiere meditar. Hace que cualquier persona aun y con la vida más ocupada quiera tener el tiempo de desconectarse.

Good read. I liked the simple ideas which can transform thoughts. I never realised meditation would be that simple. Great work.

This is a revolutionary book teaching a revolutionary way of meditating, very doable, with a minimalistic and contemporary approach. Unplug world is a case history, definitely. Suze is the founder of the global Drop-in Meditation system. Iâm impressed by the way Suze renamed some milestones of the meditation world, changing its slang, making it so simple and appealing, such as âmini-mental tornadoesâ instead of âmonkey mindâ, âgapâ instead of âawarenessâ, and, last but not least, âunplugâ instead of âmeditatingâ.This book gave me a lot of insights, anyway, my favorite is: meditation everywhere, literally. I always thought that having a meditation corner in my house was crucial for my practice. Anyways now I know that I can meditate everywhere, anytime, and without closing my eyes. This is life-changing. Like the STOP or the Starbucks meditations, a couple of minutes of real meditation that I can integrate in my days, far from the silence of my meditation corner, candles and palo santo. I can meditate in a cave on a mountain, and also like a contemporary woman while having my banana bread at Starbucks on the 5th.

I love how this book demystifies meditation and really breaks it down in such a clear way. It’s amazing as a guide if you have ever been interested in meditating but have felt it was too daunting to take on. This is a clear guide with practical meditations you can do!
